[comp.protocols.nfs] PC-NFS and DOS filehandles

mezger@is4.ifistg.uucp (Martin Mezger) (12/01/89)

We're experiencing problems with the PC-NFS 3.0.1 Product under DOS 3.3 together
with HP9000-3XXs under HP-UX 6.5 :

Our application on the PC-side uses *LOTS* of DOS filehandles (> 12). But PC-NFS
seems to use some of them too (we use just one NFS-mount) . The usual way to
solve this problem is to increase the FILES paramenter in config.sys on the PC -
But DOS never gives you more than 20 handles. So:

Is there a way to tell PC-NFS use less filehandles ?

If not, is it possible to use RPC to implement an file-server daemon on the unix
fileserver. Somebody mentioned the PC-NFS Toolkit. How useful is it for the PC
(eg. do I need it for this kind of implementation) ?

Ah, by the way: why does'nt PC-NFS like my rpc.lockd and rpc.statd on my
HP9000-3XXs under HP-UX 6.5 ?

I'm pretty new to this nfsgroup - so forgive my ignorance (;-).

*Please* mail to me (mezger@is.informatik.uni-stuttgart.dbp.de) if you can help
me out of this.
