I am in the process of installing PC-NFS on an IBM 3270PC with no success. The 3270PC is (to my knowledge) essentially a PC/XT with an enhanced display and an IRMA card. It NEEDS DOS 2.1 to operate. I am trying to get PC-NFS running via a 3COM 3C501 Ethernet card with PC-NFS 3.0. When I try and execute a "net start rdr pc2 *" it comes back with "[PC-NFS INSTALLED]" and then it bombs, even disabling warm boot. I have tried interrupts 3 and 7, but that's the extent of my meddling. When booting, it seems to go thru two out of the three device drivers in the config.sys file. When trying to run nfsrun, all it does is print a couple of lines and then returns the prompt. I know the cable is connected. I know the hosts tables on the PC and the server are correct. I am stuck. If anyone has experience or help with this, please reply to: Steven W. Quoth lodin@plains.UUCP (Joe Schmo) (in <3683@plains.UUCP>): #I am in the process of installing PC-NFS on an IBM 3270PC with no success. #The 3270PC is (to my knowledge) essentially a PC/XT with an enhanced display #and an IRMA card. It NEEDS DOS 2.1 to operate. I am trying to get PC-NFS #running via a 3COM 3C501 Ethernet card with PC-NFS 3.0. I'm posting this rather than replying by mail because many of these points come up over and over again. First, you should get hold of a copy of 3.0.1. (Standard sugestion.) Secondly, it's really important to be precise in something like this: I (and I'm sure folks from FTP, B&W and others feel the same) need to see the complete CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. It's also important to try to capture the exact sequence of screen messages - comments like ... #When booting, it seems to go thru two out of the three device drivers #in the config.sys file. When trying to run nfsrun, all it does is print #a couple of lines and then returns the prompt. are not really helpful. #When I try and execute a "net start rdr pc2 *" it comes back with #"[PC-NFS INSTALLED]" and then it bombs, even disabling warm boot. You can try running "net" with a "-D" flag: net -D start rdr pc2 * This will display a little detail about what's going on, although not necesarily enough to pinpoint the problem. A full memory map (including drivers) would also be helpful. There are a bunch of PD utilities to do this. (I don't have any to hand right now - I always use Soft-Ice.... yes, I know, I'm spoiled rotten.) Geoff Arnold, PC-NFS architect, Sun Microsystems.
