[comp.protocols.nfs] Record locking problems with PC-NFS

geoff@hinode.East.Sun.COM (Geoff Arnold @ Sun BOS - R.H. coast near the top) (04/06/90)

Toshi Kawanishi (in <1990Apr3.174610.10873@cunixf.cc.columbia.edu>)
asked several questions about Btrieve, Clipper, PC-NFS 3.0 and SunOS
4.0.3. Since these questions come up with some regularity, I'm taking
the liberty of posting part of what Steve McCarthy mailed back to
Toshi.

> The rpc.lockd that is shipped with Sun OS 4.0.3
> does not support DOS file locking/sharing [correctly]. You must install
> the lockd which is found on the PC-NFS 3.0.1 server diskette.
>
> Also, you must use PC-NFS 3.0.1 (shipping since July 1989)
> when using Clipper locking calls. Version 3.0 did not
> detect a return error during a failed lock request.
