What value does a ring of searching have? I've put one on and searched; there seems to be no difference in the number of S's I enter to find a door. Also, our Rogue has a weapon called Long Sword. What is its rating? I'd also like an explanation of what the numbers mean after the staffs/wands...that is, how to evaluate them.

If you do not know the value of a ring of searching, then you sound like a primitive novice to me. A ring of searching is capable of finding secret doors and traps *WITHOUT* doing an "s". A long sword is probably better than a mace but probably not as good as a two-handed sword (it all depends on the value of the weapon, i.e. +1, +1 mace). AS for the numbers after the wands, I assume you mean things like "5 charges". These numbers refer to the number of times you can use the wand before its magic runs out.
