We have two Yellow Pages servers (a master and slave) on our network; one of them (elsie) is our gateway to the rest of the universe. If my PC-NFS 3.0.1 "NETWORK.BAT" file contains just the lines NET YPDOMAIN YP.NCI.NIH.GOV NET START RDR then whichever of the YP servers happens to respond to the "NET START" ends up being used as the gateway. I could put a NET ROUTE ELSIE line at the tail end of the the "NETWORK.BAT" file on each PC. Doing this would mean getting to change all the PC NETWORK.BAT files if we ever moved the router; I'd like to avoid this if possible. I could put a NET ROUTE ROUTER line at the tail end of the "NETWORK.BAT" file on each PC, adding "ROUTER" as an alias for "ELSIE" in the YP hosts map. Then to change the router I'd only need to change the information in the YP hosts map; the cost of doing things this way is (slight) name space pollution. If you know of a better way to deal with the situation, I'd appreciate hearing from you by electronic mail. -- US: one small step. Canada: .
