[comp.protocols.nfs] Does AFS make a local copy of a file

jgk@osc.COM (Joe Keane) (06/27/90)

AFS used to always fetch an entire file to the local disk. This strategy
gives you low overhead and good throughput, generally a win. The downside is
that everything comes to a halt when when a large file is getting fetched.

Now they have partial fetching. IMHO, it's almost more trouble than it's
worth. But if you're dealing with large files it helps quite a bit. More
than that i don't know. For more information talk to someone at Transarc.
