[comp.protocols.nfs] PC-NFS "NET USE"

TOMIII@MTUS5.BITNET (Thomas Dwyer III) (07/16/90)

There is a problem here that's been haunting us for months. Somehow,
for no apparent reason, our printing from the PCs stops working, and
the "NET USE" command returns the following:

Can't read remote printer name from redirector.
     lpt1: \\ctsee16\

Normally, "NET USE" returns this:

     lpt1: \\ctsee16\ti2

I have been trying unsuccessfully for quite some time to duplicate this
problem, but cannot seem to find anything that causes this. I did manage
to track down the list of mounted devices from PCNFS.SYS, however I see
nothing different between the string for the mounted printer when it is
working and the same string when it isn't working. Has anyone ever seen
this problem, or does anyone know what the cause might be? It happens
several times every day, on a seemingly random basis.

Thanks,
