[comp.protocols.nfs] nfs monitoring tools....

sblair@synoptics.com (Steven Blair) (08/16/90)

Several recent requests have been made on this list for information on
tools for logging, and analyzing NFS activities on NFS servers.

We use a tool developed by Dave Curry @ SRI called: nfswatch. It's
available from
unix.sri.com for anonymous ftp. It shows information in the following manner:

This is a handy tool when trying to analyze where the "hits" are coming
to/from.
It has a lot more information that can be gathered, depending on command line
flags that you use!!

[blathers incoherently about NFSWATCH(with the wrong ftp site!!)]

Sorry, I had the host wrong on my original posting. Since I can't get in touch
with the author right now( a finger show he's gone to lunch) you can ftp one
from me:

syn-gate-gw.synoptics.com(134.177.32.116)

anonymous, anon is the ftp login command, and the file is in ~ftp/tmp as:

nfswatch.SUN4-4.0.3.Z

**Note that this is only the nfswatch binary(compiled on a Sun 4/390(4.0.3),
the man page, and a README

The other, full source, will be available as soon as I can get it.

Sorry, but I'm not willing to email this applications..mabye uunet would
be willing(or titan.rice.edu) to put it into sun-sources...(!!(??))
