Some time ago, Geoff Arnold (Sun Microsystems) asked for comments
regarding extensions, improvements to the facilities provided by the
PCNFSD daemon. I saw very little feed back on this but thought that
the following may be a good idea. We currently do something similiar
but it would be much better handled at by PCNFS.SYS and PCNFSD.
Applications license control.
If a file is marked as being execute only then ask rpc.pcnfsd if
it can be executed, if OK then load as per normal and run. On
process termination again contact rpc.pcnfsd and tell it we have
finished.
If files are r-- then no form of control is in place so just load
and execute as per normal.
If files are r-x then they can be copied but usage is monitored
not enforced. Useful for statistics. If a user copies to their
own hard disk or elsewhere I don't care.
If files are --x then license counts are enforced and copying is
prohibited.
The rpc.pcnfsd could do something similiar to what our netusage
daemon does, NB. one has to take account of machine crashes etc.
