[comp.protocols.nfs] nfs and uid mapping

I have a problem..... If you're not running YP (Yellow Pages) to
maintain a common /etc/passwd file, how can I map UIDs????
Specifically the root uid.... I need to access a file that only root
has access to from, a remote box..... how can this be done??? Please
respond via mail...
