For anyone wondering, we have successfully installed Harvard Graphics 2.3 (with HG LAN 2.0) on a Sun PC-NFS network. The tricks: 1. Install HG 2.3 on drive C: with no network running (net stop rdr). The INSTALL program provided doesn't like the network and hangs. Also, heed the warning and use INSTALL /M for monochrome displays...... 2. Copy the entire directory structure (XCOPY works fine) to a network drive (it's about 6.5 Meg like they warned). Make it readable to your users. 3. Copy HG.NET files from the LAN disk as per instructions. Add additional nodes as per instructions (we installed a single node, then added a 5 pack). 4. Run HGNETSET to configure the directories for your log files. Make the log files read/writeable to your users. 5. Make HG.NET read/writeable to your users. It is best to make the file owned by someone that will NEVER run HG. That would cause the file to become read- only for some reason. We have a "spare" account, but you could use root. 6. Add the HG directory to your path and enjoy. I offer no comment on the product, we have enough magazine writer's to do that. Disclaimer: Harvard Graphics is.........Software Publishing Corp. I speak for me. My company sometimes wishes I'd be quieter. -- -- Mike Sullivan, x3570 -- -- Information Technology Group -- Effective use of available technology for better information management.
