OK, here's my oddball question. We have a Sun CDROM reader attached to our Sun fileserver. I have set up a PC on our PC-NFS network so that the contents of the CDs in the reader appear to be on the n: drive on the PC. Now, I have a PC executable which wishes to read files from a CD. But it expects to find the CD as a separate device. The software comes complete with a number of device drivers, one of which is to be copied as CDROM.SYS to the CONFIG.SYS on the PC. (The software also attempts to load mscdex.exe - microsoft extensions - which in turn require the CDROM.SYS driver.). Is there a software solution to allow me to run the PC program with the CDROM reader attached to the SUN? Or will I have to buy a controller card for the PC, and then plug the CD reader into whichever machine needs to use it at any given time? (Advice sought there too). Thanks in advance for any pointers -- Dave Rusin

Quoth rusin@mp.cs.niu.edu (David Rusin) (in <1990Oct15.160516.24618@mp.cs.niu.edu>): # Is there a software solution to allow me to run the PC #program with the CDROM reader attached to the SUN? If the software insists on using the CD ROM extensions, the CD player must be local to the PC. Sorry. -- Geoff Arnold, PC-NFS architect, Sun Microsystems.
