Has anyone out there had any problems running NFS over PCRoute? I know that the folks at Northwestern University (in particular Vance morrison@accuvax.nwu.edu) are very happy with their SUN NFS over PCRoute, so long as they use 4K packets. I too have set my NFS packet sizes down to anything between 1 and 4K, but have encountered several problems during copies of large (1MB) files across NFS mounts. Initially I was using the packet driver version of PCRoute, with the Version 7.x packet driver for NE1000 ethernet boards. During large transfers my local host would suddenly start complaining that the remote host was not responding. I would then discover that the PCRouter had hung....dead. It was not even possible to reboot it with Ctrl-Alt-Del, only a hardware reset would suffice. I naturally suspected the packet drivers (due to glowing reviews fo PCRoute with WD8003E boards and no packet drivers). However, No such problems occur with NFS xfers on a local Ethernet string (ie no router), but by the same token, ftp'ing across the router with any size file works just fine. Since changing to WD8003E's in my Router, the router no longer hangs, but I still crash NFS, and in fact yesterday wumped my host entirely with a Kernel Panic. OK, so it is probably NFS's fault, but why only through PCROute? The router is a 12MHz AT (soon to be a 16/20MHz AT) so processor speed should not be a problem (NWU us XT's). Thanks for any help.
