I've gotten Sun's PC-NFS to work with the Clarkson packet driver. I have developed extreme disgust with Sun's Telnet and FTP, so I would like to use NCSA's Telnet and FTP. Unfortunately, Telnet and FTP won't work with PC-NFS. I get: Packet Access Type Error 10 Can't access IP handle interface to type 1 Packet driver probably not loaded Error code: -2 Telnet/FTP with the packet driver works very well when PC-NFS is not active. Are Telnet/FTP and PC-NFS doomed to be mutually exclusive? Is it possible to get them to cooperate? If so, how? I'm using a 3Com 3C503 card on a 286 machine. Eric

Here's how: You need to run a special version of NCSA telnet that has been modified to run with PC-NFS. It is available from the good folks at Clarkson via anonymous ftp. Start out in the directory /pub/cutcp and get the appropriate readme files as well as pktd.sys. You replace the SUN supplied 3com drivers in config.sys with pktd.sys. This lets PC-NFS use packet driver software. You will have to consult the readme files for full instructions, I believe the version you need is CUTE (Clarkson University Terminal Emulator) CUTE Ver. 2.2TN/NFS-A. I've had good luck with this on 286 machines with 3C503 cards. Just be careful if you try to run it on a 386 under Desqview/386.
