cryptkpr@cc.utah.edu (H. CARLTON DOE III) (03/18/91)
I'll spare you all the details but I run an AT&T Unix shop and am about to rip out StarLAN and put in TCP/IP with NFS on my network of 386 and 486 based machines and terminal servers. I want to create as seemless an environment as possible with respect to the users on the system and balance the CPU loads different departments create during the day. To do so requires load balancing the system via the terminal servers. To make that work, I need to centralize all the user files so that regardless of which CPU the user is on, they have their personal files available to them. There is scant information in my NFS software documentation on how to make that happen. My question then is: How do I set up the NFS environment to make this happen? I assume I'll probably want these sub-directories soft mounted, but do you explicitly build pointers into each user .profile or set up general pointers within the system profile? Thanks in advance for e-mail responses to an NFS novice. the Crypt Keeper at Spectrum Field Services =========================================================================== | WARNING!
