Hello! I need to study closely the Sun NFS protocol. Surprizingly, I have been unable to find much useful info at all about this protocol. I have looked at papers by John DeVries, Alex Osadzinsky etc., but these are mostly overview papers with little technical content. They however mention that NFS is based on RPC and XDR, both of which have been released to the public domain, along with some sample source. So, where do I look for these? Really, what I need is something akin to an ANSI spec and a set of papers that describe the salient features of NFS (eg, statelessness, how it affects locking mechanisms, etc.) Or perhaps an email address of someone at Sun who can help (Scott McNealy? :-) I would appreciate very greatly any info on these topics. I have spent two days doing compendex searches on the material, and you'd think that NFS was thought of day before yesterday! This is entirely for academic purposes; I am not even remotely interested in current commercial availability on some platform or the other. I just need to study the scientific aspects of NFS as a distributed file system protocol. Thank you very much! Milan. .
