[comp.protocols.nfs] Ram Cram on 8088

kxb@math.ksu.edu (Karl Buck) (04/18/91)

I've just installed PC-NFS on an 8088 that runs out of memory when running
WordPerfect. What are some solutions around ram cram on a lowly XT?

P.S. The machine has no extended/expanded memory.

Any or all of the below will help some..

1) Get some expanded memory, and use Qram or something similar to map it into
free areas beetwen 640K and 1M.

2) If you've got straight ethernet, and aren't going through any routers that
might fragment packets, you can throw the /i0 switch on pcnfs.sys. This will
   save a couple of K

3) Don't load ansi.sys. PC-NFS messages will look odd, but it will still work.

4) Lower your files and buffers in config.sys to the minimum you can live with.
