We are starting a study on network file servers, using both NFS and FTP to serve a commercial engineering environment with thousands of UNIX machines, from workstations to a Cray YMP. We will be evaluating many different servers, from mainframes (Cray running UNICOS, IBM running AIX, ...) to workstation based servers (SUN, IBM RS6000,...). We will be evaluating performance under both native NFS/FTP and the UNITREE product from DISCOS. We are interested in any insight that other sites can provide us in how and what to measure in terms of server performance. Any experiences, both good and bad, would be helpful. Any available network benchmarks would also be helpful. Thanks. Bob Bedoll, Boeing Computer Services, Box 24346, MS 7A-35, Seattle,WA 98124 (206) 865-6414 rfb@wsc-sun.boeing.com
