[comp.protocols.nfs] Printing from PC-NFS 3.5

blu@millipore.com (Brian Utterback) (05/03/91)

We recently upgraded to version 3.5 of PC-NFS and are having some problems
with printing.

We have a Tektronix 4693dx color printer and before upgrading it was almost
impossible to print to it from our PCs. This was because the program that
allowed windows to work with the Tek (Superprint from Zenographics) had a
weird interaction with the LPTn.OS2 entries such that it took about 30 minutes
to create a print job and it often failed. Now with PC-NFS 3.5 we no longer
need the OS2 part and Superprint takes about 5 minutes.

The only problem is that sometimes we don't get anything out of the printer.
I often find old print jobs in the PC-NFS directories and users complain that
they never get their printouts.

Last night one user did not receive a printout, then this morning printed to
a different (this time postscript) printer and then *both* printers started
printing, the Tek printing the job from the night before.

In addition, if I issue a lpr on the sun side for the stale lpxxxx files in
the PC-NFS directory sometimes they will print, sometimes not. Since the Tek
aborts the print on error this suggests that sometimes the files completed
transfering from the PC, sometimes not, so there may be more than one problem.

Anyone have any ideas?
