[comp.protocols.nfs] NFS domain problem

pritchet@susie.cs.scarolina.edu (Ronald W. Pritchett) (05/04/91)

We are having some problems running PC-NFS v3.5.

Before we bought it, we used the Clarkson packet drivers to run CutCp & NCSA
telnet & ftp. They worked a little slow but they worked. We could connect to
anywhere in the world from our little 286.

Now that we have the PC-NFS installed, we've only been able to connect with
2 machines outside our domain. 1) bcm.tmc.edu 2) elvis (our friend's HP9000
in Wash DC). We still can ping any machine though. This has us quite
perplexed.

Our Setup:
Clone 286 running DR-DOS 5.0 with 1MB of RAM
3C505 Ethernet card set to DMA 5, INT 5, ADDR 0x300
NIS Server NOT used, RARP NOT used
PCNFSD NOT used, Route Gate IS being used

We HAVE been able to mount a news drive from our server (Redwood) which is a
DECstation. The PC is called uscacm (IP 129.252.11.13), domain is set to
"cs.scarolina.edu" and it routes through lecont (Cisco router)
IP:129.252.11.1. One other note, the ARP -A command only lists ethernet
addresses for Redwood (our news mounted drive) and Lecont (our gateway).
Should the ARP -A list more ethernet addresses?

any help on this problem would be GREATLY appreciated!

Ron
