[comp.protocols.nfs] SOSS on 386 with 3c503

wcwang@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu (Bill Wang) (06/05/91)

Has anyone successfully installed a SOSS server (PCNFS server) on a 386
with 3com 3c503 card? I would really appreciate to see a sample configuration
of 'custom netdev.sys' before I spent any more time on it. I could get
ping pc from the unix side or ping unix from the pc side but neither
'showmount pc' or mount pc disk worked. Thanks in advance!

After a few more trials, I finally got SOSS into a stage where some of
the mounts work. It's kind of strange to see that I could ping from any
of the unix nodes or from the pc to any of those bu not be able to mount
the pc disk to all of them. Somehow it looks like nfs problems related
to operating system releases.

Working: Sun 3/60 with SUNOS version 4.0, Sparc 2 with SUNOS 4.1.1
Not working: Sparc IPC with SUNOS 4.1, When mounting the pc disk,
error message: server not responding, rpc: program not registered.
Decstation 3100/5000 with Ultrix 4.0, it mounts ok.
But when I tried to 'ls' on it contents, it gave the following
message: .:No such file or directory.
