[net.games.rogue] games and relaxation

rene@umcp-cs.UUCP (09/15/83)

Yes, games like rogue are not relaxing like sitting in the
dark listening to Mozart is relaxing, but the energy and
excitement used is different from what makes one so
tired and rundown after a day of work. It IS relaxing to take
one's mind off work for a while by playing a game, I think,
even if the game is not exactly 'relaxing'. It's something
*different* from the same old grind and it's NOT IMPORTANT.
I mean, you can get upset about dying with good magic, but
it's not the program you've been hacking on for three months.
Anyway, that's why I play rogue and D&D, etc. When I'm really
keyed up, I like something that occupies my mind more than just
relaxing would. It keeps my mind from racing (and losing!) over
old problems. I feel refreshed at a time when I couldn't take a
nap.
