The following message was forwarded to me, and I thought it might be of interest to some: ------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Oct 90 08:27 CST Subject: Myrias A message from Roger Taylor, Director General, Division of Informatics, National Research Council of Canada, Ottawa As many (all?) of you know Myrias Research has had to declare bankruptcy and is currently in receivership. A deal had been struck that would have resulted in the installation of a 256-processor SPS-2 at NRC, later to be upgraded to a 128-processor SPS-3. A key element of that deal was the assurance that Myrias would remain a viable company through financing from a major corporation. Unfortunately the financing that they were expecting fell through and that left them with no choice but to declare bankruptcy. We had of course been hoping to offer the Myrias computer to the research community at very low rates and let it be used as a national facility. Thanks to the publicity that people on this list generated, several groups expressed interest in accessing the Myrias and those people ought to know where things now stand. I would appreciate it therefore if you would pass the word around that it is not to be. Myrias no longer lives. R.I.P. Roger ------------------------ Comments?
