Hi! This may be sort of an unusual request. Our group is seeking support for establishing a supercomputer environment that allows for creating and running programs in the C++ language. Let me explain. We have an account on the Cray-YMP supercomputer at the Un of Amsterdam, to do research on 3D image segmentation. Originally we wanted to run C, but since our own local environment is gradually drifting from C towards C++, we would also like to run our C++ programs on the super. For certain reasons we would like to have available a professional commercially available environment, rather than a PD C++. The people at the National Computer Facilities foundation (who awarded us the grant for our account) are quite willing to help us with the additional requirement, given that we can show that there is a general interest to run C++ on supercomputers, perhaps even more specifically an interest to run C++ on the Un of Amsterdam's Cray-YMP. My questions. 1) Are there people or institutions out there that can make relevant statements on the desirability to run C++ or other object oriented programming languages on supercomputers, preferably supported by actual experiences? 2) Are there any groups with (current or future) accounts on the Amsterdam facility that would also like to have C++ available? Any responses will be highly appreciated.
