One of the new potions in 7.0 makes you more "vaporous". You can't pick up anything, hit anyone, get hit by anyone (although the monsters do follow you around), or do much of anything, except move around, search, use magic, and (!!!) walk through walls. The potion wears off after a while, and I was out in the middle of solid rock when I re-materialized. I can't go anywhere. I tried reading a scroll of light (the corridor glows and then fades), quaffing haste self (no help), and doing whatever else there was. I guess I'll have to see if starvation is possible in 7.0. (It isn't in 3.7.1; I once dropped a scare monster scroll, waited for 32767 or until I got bored with fainting, and still couldn't starve.) Also, a Z was following me around until I walked out through the wall. It stopped moving at a doorway, and became a &. I did /& to find out what that meant, and & is an unidentified character. The guy who did our "strange rogue" thought of that one! If you rematerilize in solid rock you're dead. -- In-Real-Life: Chris Torek, Univ of MD Comp Sci UUCP: {seismo,allegra,brl-bmd}!umcp-cs!chris CSNet: chris@umcp-cs ARPA: chris.umcp-cs@UDel-Relay

Re: vaporous potion You got it! If you materialize in rock you might as well quit. The '&' means you walked through a doorway in the vaporous state so it is telling you there is a door there (even if you discovered it in a sneaky way). When you re-materialize you can just go through it (like you had a find trap ring on). My strategy is to quickly look around through rocks, etc. Then I stick to the -
