To be more specific about the Sys V.3 '386 bug: If I don't use the reload.c patch, tree.c won't compile with gcc. If I do use it, no modules will compile, apparently because of an infinite loop somewhere in cc1. It appears that any information variable i had before the patch is lost by the patch.
