References: Our site has received Berkely 4.2, but we do not intend to bring it up for many months. Does anyone know how easy it might be to get Rogue 5.3 up on an earlier version of Berkely Unix than 4.2? DOes anyone have Rogue 5.3 running on earlier versions of Berkely Unix? - Toby Robison decvax!ittvax!eosp1 or: allegra!eosp1

We're running 5.3 on bsd4.1, but there are 2 problems (that I know of).
The first is that one of the ways of showing inventories doesn't work
properly..but there are other choices, so that's usable.
The second is that you can't save games...actually that's wrong (as
the current top of our roll pointed out to me), you can SAVE games,
.....you just can't restore saved games!
Despite these problems, this is still the game I play (late at night when
the system load is guaranteed low!), because it's different, and I at least
stand a chance of being the first total winner (not much..I'm currently #10)

When we first got our 4.2 tape, it was indeed, not coming up until
Christmas. Of course, me being the Rogueist that I am, I tried to
run rogue 5.3 under 4.1. The only difficulty I found was that you
could not restore from a save file (as Dave mentioned) and on startup,
it did not set the tty modes right. I had to do a 'stty -echo cbreak'
before it would run. Since we have 4.2 up, I have not bothered to see
exactly why the modes were not set correctly, mainly because the need
or desire wasn't there. Have fun.
