You can attack Invisible Stalkers (Phantoms in 5.3) but they are relatively tough. It is best to catch one in a hallway so you don't lose him. There is also a potion of see invisible that lets you see the fellow while you pound on him.

A technique for beating Invisies is to get to a hallway and run for awhile. I mean pressing the "f" key and then the "h,j,k,l" key. What happens is that the Invisi is usally confused and is a couple of steps behind you. You then put on your armour and bet the s*** out of him. The credit for this technique should go to ZORRO. Who I think has devised a way for beating every monster that there is, since he's been a total winner at least 3 times on 5.2. -- From the contorted brain and the rotted body of the sophist. All wrong. Find a straight section of corridor, preferably long, and run to the end. The confused Stalker will lag behind you. Throw arrows back at him until he comes up to you and hits you. Repeat proceedure until you have 4 or 5 arrows in him, then melee directly. Don't want to waste all your arrows. When meleeing try to stay in corridors. If he doesn't hit back once, it means that he backed away instead of hitting you. Don't hit him then, you will just move next to him and give him an extra chance to hit you. Instead, hold your ground and throw something after him or take the chance to quaff a potion or read a scroll. Confuse monster is, of course, useless. If you have some worthless potion handy, pour it on the floor and then back away. With luck, the Stalker will step in the puddle, and you will be able to locate him by his sodden footprints.

To : Jim"Jarliss the fiend"Douglas I play version 3.6 - In this rev Stalkers are usually in some sort of confused state - They don't always chase you in a straight line when you turn and run - this makes it tougher to hit him because you really don't know where he/she/it (do they have a gender?) is. There are rings of "see invisible" and a potion of "see invisible", if you find them... I think the potion will last for the level you quaff it on only but the ring is good as long as its on your hand.
