For some reason, the note never made it off my site. Here are the hints for clearing out Party Rooms. If you don't want to read them, do whatever it is you do to avoid seeing the next page of this note. Thanks to all who replied, and please forgive me for not replying to you in person. Rogue hints (details): How to clean out Party Rooms. Upon entering the doorway of a Party Room, if the room is lit, you will see *loads* of monsters and items -- up to ten monsters in the same room. This can be alarming at first, and you won't be able to watch as closely as you should. The important thing is to notice which monsters are awake and which are sleeping. Because you are taken by surprise, this may not be possible when you enter the doorway. If you do not notice which monsters are sleeping, you should act very cautiously, so as not to awaken any nasties (Eyes, Nymphs, Trolls, Xorns, Ants, Fungi (yes, fungi!), etc.). You should NOT enter the room and start hacking away, as you will be hacked yourself. Sit in the doorway, and the non-sleeping monsters will come to you, one at a time. If you get in hit-point trouble, you can (hopefully) back away and defeat the monsters which are following you. Naturally, if an Eye is awake and following you, there's not a lot you can do but swing at it and hope you kill it. Once you have defeated all the monsters which were awake, you can enter the Party Room to pick up the treasure and pick off the monsters which are left. NOTE THAT MONSTERS IN A PARTY ROOM ARE MORE LIKELY TO WAKE UP AS YOU PASS THAN THEY NORMALLY ARE! Your first priority, then, is to kill the really dangerous but easy monsters (Eyes and Nymphs, which fall to one or two arrow shots) from a distance. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU PASS BY A SLEEPING EYE ON YOUR WAY TO A TREASURE: he may wake up and transfix you permanently, nullifying all your other efforts. If there are monsters which are sleeping, but which you can handle one-on-one, by all means go up and whack them: no sense risking their waking up and getting the first hit on you. Just be careful not to awaken two monsters at once -- you've already dealt with that, and now you can take your time. -- Allan Pratt ihnp4!inuxc!iuvax!apratt March 31, 1984
