Recently, the rogue game on our system has developed a tendancy to destroy saved games. What happens, usually, is that as soon as you make your first move, it resaves the game. If you try restarting, the same thing happens. Anyone else had this problem? This can really get you steamed when you've got a ring of stealth, an enchanted two-hander, tripley enchanted protected banded mail, 2 scrolls of hold monster, one of scare monster, 18 strength, and a ring of sustain strenght. If I were paranoid, I'd think someone was out to get me. "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you."

A (perhaps related) bug exists in Rogue 5.3 whereby one's inventory list is clobbered on occasion, usually when you have a lot of items. I have even seen the inventory command go into an infinite loop printing the same item forever.

I have also noticed this bug several times here at Purdue. Anyone out there has any suggestions?

This bug with saving games in 5.3 seems to be net wide. Someone reported about a month ago that if you try to save a game 20 times it will ALWAYS blow up. This appears to be true. When I tested that theory out I noticed that even if you don't make a move between successive saves, the size of the save file increases. At some point this blows up the game. Other probably related problems I have had with games that I have saved include: a) Infinite loops while printing out the inventory. b) Items dissappearing from my pack. c) Inventory display messing up completely, garbage characters all over the place. This can be a real pain when you have a winning game and you starve to death because the program won't let you remove a ring of healing.
