#N:iuvax:9800022:000:1470 iuvax!apratt Apr 13 21:17:00 1984 (Very) recently, somebody asked for the meaning of a scroll. Now, this is a "public" newsgroup, meaning that LOTS of people are going to read what you write, not just the person who asked. When a person requests an outright answer to a question, please consider posting a NEW note (not a response) with the subject and **SPOILER** in the title. That way, 1) people who don't want to know the answer can avoid seeing it, and 2) people who know the answer can skip your note and not waste their time. Posting hints is usually useless, since so many people are going to post so many hints that, together, they form a spoiler. Also remember that it only takes one person to mess up this courtesy -- one person posting the answer without a **SPOILER** indication. On the other hand, the object of Rogue is to get a high score, not to get "through" it, as is the case in Adventure. Also, answers to questions do not spoil the game, just certain aspects of it (the aspect of figuring out having "a strange feeling for a moment," for example), unlike the answer to a mystery novel, which sometimes removes the whole point of reading it. On behalf of other Rogues, I would like to see the **SPOILER** courtesy used here as in other places (net.games (for Adventure and Zork), net.movies, net.books), but I would also go ahead and READ those spoilers, so maybe the Rogue I'm referring to doesn't exist. -- Allan Pratt Please reply to... ...ihnp4!inuxc!iuvax!apratt
