-- Recently people have been talking about "dropping" or "dropping levels", as in "I start dropping around level 17". Correct me if I'm wrong: I think they mean going downstairs as soon as they can find the stairwell. Just now somebody was telling about a game he won in 5.3, and referred to killing two griffins and then he "dropped the amulet". How's that again? I don't know what he's talking about. Can someone enlighten me? -- Not ashamed to admit my ignorance, --Bill Buie

In this case, a griffen was carrying the Amulet of Yendor.

I was the person who was describing the situation involving "dropping". Sorry for any confusion. I thought people understood the tactic. "Dropping" refers to going down stairs as soon as you see them on any level (a good idea to do from level 17 onward). I used this tactic in my win. "Dropping the amulet" is what the griffin did when I killed it. The griffin was carrying the amulet as treasure. Thus, when I killed it, I found the treasure. I never dropped the amulet (this would be a very silly thing to do). Gordon Strong decvax!genrad!mit-eddie!gs GS@MIT-XX
