The 'f' command (fight until nearly dead) is useful to dispose of Aquators when you have protected armor. I mean, who cares how many times the Aquator hits and the rust vanishes anyway? Keith M. Taylor Corvallis, Oregon hplabs!hp-pcd!keith

Can someone explain exactly what it is the 'f' command does? I know, I shouldn't use it if I'm serious about playing, but it is convenient. It (supposedly) fights until you are 'near death.' (not to be confused with 'F' which fights 'til death) However, I have been killed numerous times when I've used it. Is it supposed to take into account the max. damage inflicted by the monster you are facing? Will it always take one swing? Etc. -- Randwulf (Randy Haskins); Path= genrad!mit-eddie!rh

I believe that "f" and "F" work just fine, provided: (a) you're only fighting one monster, and (b) you have enough hit points to survive at least one full-force hit from the monster in question. Using "f" twice in succession may get you killed since it returns control to you if the hit points *drop* below the minimum necessary to survive another hit; if the hit points are *already below the minimum*, I think it just swings again. If either (a) or (b) isn't true, I usually find it better to assume "manual" control anyway. -- Rsk the Wombat UUCP: { allegra, decvax, ihnp4, harpo, teklabs, ucbvax } !pur-ee!rsk { cornell, eagle, hplabs, ittvax, lanl-a, ncrday } !purdue!rsk
