<if this is read, the computer missed> I got this from a friend who got it from a core dump or something. It might be useful for people who play 5.3 (although the Ac is still given in 5.2 language for some reason). name HD AC level damage used to be aquator 5 2 9-18 0d0/0d0 rust monster bat 1 3 1-8 1d2 centaur 4 4 7-16 1d2/1d5/1d5 [1d6/1d6] dragon 10 -1 22- 1d8/1d8/3d10 emu 1 7 1-7 1d2 jackal venus flytrap 8 3 12- (variable) violet fungi griffin 13 2 20- 4d3/3d5 [look out for these] hobgoblin 1 5 1-10 1d8 ice monster 1 9 2-11 0d0 floating eye jabberwock 15 6 21- 2d12/2d4 purple worm kestrel 1 7 1-6 1d4 kobold leprechaun 3 8 6-15 1d1 medusa 8 2 18- 3d4/3d4/2d5 umber hulk nymph 3 9 10-19 0d0 orc 1 6 4-13 1d8 phantom 8 3 15-24 4d4 invisible stalker quagga 3 3 8-17 1d5/1d5 quasit [1d2/1d2/1d4] rattlesnake 2 3 3-12 1d6 giant ant snake 1 5 1-9 1d3 troll 6 4 13-22 1d8/1d8/2d6 black unicorn 7 -2 17-26 1d9/1d9/2d9 xorn [1d3/1d3/1d3/4d6] vampire 8 1 19- 1d10 wraith 5 4 14-23 1d6 xeroc 7 7 16-25 4d4 mimic [3d4] yeti 4 6 11-20 1d6/1d6 zombie 2 8 5-14 1d8 Basic Experience: Monster Experience Points A 20 B 1 C 15 D 5000 Dragons devalued again. [Has anyone sent for the exterminator?] Many times in this group I've seen references to 'hit dice' and cryptic notations like 'such-and-such a monster has 2d4,' etc. Would anyone care to explain just what these phrases mean? Thanks in advance for any help. From just another bloody smear on the dungeon floor, Lewis Barnett barnett@ut-sally.ARPA,barnett@ut-sally.UUCP, {ihnp4,seismo,ctvax}!utsally!barnett

Hit dice is a term stolen from Dungeons and Dragons (TM TSR) or any of the FRP games. What it means is that you roll a certain number of dice to see how many hit points are taken away from you. If a monster does 2d4 of damage, this tranlates into 2 four sided dice or 2-8 hit points. 1d8 is one 8 sided dice or 1-8 hit points. Occasionally you will see something like 2d4/2d4. This means that the monster is given two chances to hit you, each chance worth 2-8 points. If luck is for you he misses both times. If luck is against you he gets 16 points. The range would be 2-16. This can be stacked to as many attacks as the controller of the game thinks he can get away with. -- From the closet of anxieties of: Chuq Von Rospach {amd70,fortune,hplabs,ihnp4}!nsc!chuqui (408) 733-2600 x242 Half asleep I hear a voice; is it only in my mind? Thanks in advance for any help. These are terms from frp games (like AD&D (TM) TSR). Hit Dice: This is how many 8-sided dice to roll to get the monster's hit-points. Hit dice also tells how easily the monster can hit you. Ever notice that you hit better at higher levels? This is partly because you too have more hit-dice (in your case, they're called levels). This is why the dragon, griffin and jabberwock are such pains. Lots of hit-dice. ndm: means n dice. Each die has m sides. -- Dave Cohrs @ wisconsin ...!{allegra,heurikon,ihnp4,seismo,sfwin,ucbvax,uwm-evax}!uwvax!dave dave@wisc-rsch.arpa
