For those interested in implementing a multi player rogue, I suggest you look at the recent proceeding of the 4th conference on distributed systems (held in SF, CA). There is a paper by D. Cherlton and some one else (maybe a spelling error as I don't have them myself) on a game called Amaze which was implemented using the distributed V kernel developed at Stanford. It was done using SUN workstations and the paper won the best paper award for the conference. On the holiday effect: I play rogue (5.3) on 1 VAX 750, and three different VAX780s. One VAX780 (with an RP07) seems to have a particularly difficult game. I am frequently killed on level 1 by things like bats when just starting out, more so than the other machines. The disk and 8 MB of core are the only things which distinguish this machine for the others (the rest have RA81s or equvalents). This happens any day, not just holidays. --eugene miya
