If anyone is thinking about buying a disk drive or other peripheral from Crate Technology in North Hollywood, CA. you might want to think again. Last year my company paid well over $2000 for a Mac IIx 300 Meg internal disk drive from Crate Technology. It arrived and worked fine for a few weeks. Then the drive went out and we returned it to Crate for service. When they returned the drive, it still didn't work, so we sent it back again. They sent up a 160Meg external drive as a loaner until the 300Meg was repaired. Now here it is nearly a year later and we still don't have the 300Meg drive we paid for. Phone calls and FAX messages to Crate have not received any response. The story we're hearing from a disk manufacturer who supplies Crate is that Crate was having trouble paying their bills, so they returned the drives they had in for repair to the original manufacturer for credit! They did this last September. Apparently one of the drives they returned, along with drives that several others had returned for service, was the 300Meg we had already paid for. They never bothered to tell us anything about the situation, they just told us they would "look into it" and never got back to us. So if our experience with Crate Technology is any indication of what to expect, I would recommend buying elsewhere. I suspect that Crate won't be in business much longer if they continue practice in this manner.
