For the first time this evening, I tried using the 'tr' (translate characters) command, and discovered that it appears to work fine with the '-d' and '-s' options, but does nothing when processing an ascii file under '-c'. Indeed, the specific example presented in the man page for 'tr' doesn't do anything. Is this thing brain-damaged? If so, has anyone written a C-routine that does this job in lieu of 'tr'?
