Well, I just recently got call-waiting with the "disable" option (only on my
voice line, which I'm forced to use for data communications while I await
settlement of the NYNEX strike for re-installation of my data line following
a recent move), and find I can utilize it easily. For example, my L.sys entry
for THE STORE! is:

  shop Any ACU 1200 *70,12019574646 "" \r\d\r ogin:--ogin:--ogin: shop

(The "*70" part selects call-waiting-disable, and the "," specifies a pause,
to wait for the bzzz-bzzz which confirms the disable.)

Note that the call-waiting-disable feature is not available at all offices
which provide call-waiting.

The pause after '*70' isn't necessary. The confirmation tone (treble
burst of dial tone) is a courtesy only; the DTMF digit receiver is
still listening for the rest of the number.

As you say Gary, Disable call waiting is not available in all areas!
I suspect as a device to enable the local phone companies to sell
extra lines to desperate modem users( that's what I'm going to do)
Disable CW is not available in my area and before I buy a separate
line I'm going to see if I can get the source code from this BBS
The remarks say it really works, so I suspect that it does access
the phone companies switch and affects it some way. If they won't
provide what we need someone will I guess. Thanks to all the
responses to my pleas; I still don't know why I get
"Failed to Attach Shared Memory" messages??

While this is true in some telephone switches (like the AT&T ESS), it
is not true in others, such as the Northern Telecom DMS. One should
test this first before removing the pause.
