[comp.lang.scheme.c] compiler-availability

cbliek@ATHENA.MIT.EDU (02/02/89)

Hi,

I'm very interested in scheme, but without compiler it is too slow for my
applications. The release notices suggest that a compiler for vax machines
(running ultrix 3.0) was expected to be out by january 88. Is this compiler
available yet? And if so where?
I'm also interested in incorporating C code in scheme programs, is that
interface available with the same scheme release ?
I would also like to ask you if you could put me on your mailing list, so that
i could get all news about scheme developments.

My address is cbliek@deslab.mit.edu.

Thanks a lot,

Christian Bliek.

The compiler should be released in a few months. We are using it
regularly on 68020s, but it needs a little cleaning up before it is
made widely available. As far as the vax port, the main problem is
lack of vaxen on which to work. It needs about 10 more days of work
to be at the same level as the 68020, but I don't really have a
machine on which to play with it.

The C interface has been available with all releases. Please look
through the release information on athena (it's there) for
documentation. It is not convenient, but with a little effort it can
be made to work quite nicely.

I will add you to the mailing list.
