[skip this if you have seen this before, some friends complained they did not see this posted, so I post again] I am posting this for someone who can't get easy access to newsgroups. Do not send enquiries or followups to me but instead they can be sent to ISSJE@NUSVM.BITNET (Jane Ee). -------------------- Forwarded Message -------------------------- [disclaimer: the Institute of Systems Science at National University of Singapore is solely responsible for the content of this announcement.] Chinese Computing Interface for TI-Explorer ------------------------------------------- Available For Free Distribution ------------------------------- The Institute of Systems Science has implemented some software to support Chinese computing on the Explorer workstation (Texas Instruments). They are the Explorer Chinese Computing Interface (CCI) and Computer Aided Chinese Input System (CACIS). These software are tested and used internally for Chinese computing rather extensively for the recent two years. The software runs on Explorer System Version 3.2 and 4.1 currently. It will not (and should not) run on the Symbolic or any other Lisp machines. The software is now available for free distribution save for tape, administration and postal charges. There is a brief summary of CCI and CACIS at the end of this article. A file providing more details can be obtained on request through email. Should you be interested in obtaining these software please send your order to: Jane Ee Institute of Systems Science National University of Singapore Heng Mui Keng Terrace Kent Ridge Singapore 0511 Republic of Singapore Please include US$100 in check made payable to National University of Singapore. This will cover the tape, admin and postal charges. If all things go well, you will receive two tapes containing the ready-to-install, object version of CCI and CACIS (source codes are not included and are obtainable only on special requests.) We can be reached electronically at ISSJE@NUSVM.BITNET (Jane Ee). ---------------------------------------------- Summary of CCI and CACIS: CCI - CHINESE COMPUTING INTERFACE This interface provides the TI Explorer with an environment for Chinese computing. It allows Chinese characters to be used and displayed in almost any other Explorer software products as if they are normal alphabetic characters. As a result, Chinese characters can be used as atom names, function names, strings, etc. There are also input methods allowing the user to input Chinese characters into Zmacs buffers and Lisp listeners. The interface uses GB2312-80 Code and a 16x16 Chinese character font. The internal representation of Chinese characters is similar to that of CCDOS. The computing interface is built by Joel Loo Peingling of Insitute of Systems Science and packaged for distribution by Jane Ee. It is now made available with the following restrictions: It is not to be sold nor included in any package that is sold. Otherwise, it may be copied freely. We would like to hear of comments, suggestions, bugs (although fixes are not promised), modifications. CACIS - COMPUTER-AIDED CHINESE INPUT SYSTEM This system is built on-top of the Chinese Computing Interface (CCI), released earlier by Institute of Systems Science, Singapore. To run this system, CCI is a pre-requisite. The CCI provides 3 input methods : Hanyu-Pinyin, Guobiao Code and Simple English Translation Input. CACIS provides an additional radical input method for users who do not know Hanyu-pinyin. CACIS is targetted to the casual user. It emphasizes user-friendliness using mouse, window and menu interface. It helps the user by displaying characters in decreasing order of usage and displays relevant phrase based on a selected character. CACIS is built at the Insitute of Systems Science, Singapore. Its initial design and implementation is by Dr Low Hwee Boon and Ng Toh Miang on the IBM PC. It was implemented on the Explorer by Ngair Teow Hin using concept lattice for its data structure; the user interface is by Jane Ee. It is now made available with the following restrictions: It is not to be sold nor included in any package that is sold. Otherwise, it may be copied freely. We would like to hear of comments, suggestions, bugs (although fixes are not promised), modifications. - Jane Ee
