[comp.sys.ti.explorer] another anomalous state

smoliar@vaxa.isi.edu (Stephen Smoliar) (05/05/90)

I have edited my screen to lay out my ZMACS and Lisp Listener windows in
adjacent columns. This allows me to look at function definitions in their
files while testing them in the Lisp Listener. This morning, after a cold
boot, I found my machine in a new state. If I selected a file for editing
from Dired, the file would be retrieved; but control would pass to the Lisp
Listener! (In other words, the blinking cursor moved to the Lisp Listener
window.) How did I get into this state; and (more importantly) how do I
get OUT of it? (The same thing happens for any menu selection command in
ZMACS.) It seems reasonable that for most commands I give to ZMACS, I would
like to REMAIN in ZMACS!

"By long custom, social discourse in Cambridge in intended to impart and only
rarely to obtain information. People talk; it is not expected that anyone
will listen. A respectful show of attention is all that is required until
the listener takes over in his or her turn. No one has ever been known to
repeat what he or she has heard at a party or other social gathering."
