klm@cme.nist.gov (Ken Manheimer) (10/22/90)
I have a pair of fully loaded "Classic" explorers for sale (both explorer I, not II; one's an LX). I went through a round of offers a few months ago but didn't wind up coming up with any deals, so this time i'm posting a lower price up front - $5000 for the pair or $2500 for the regular and $3500 for the LX, plus shipping. (Note that i've assembled a complete and up to date set of documentation for only the LX; while i'm pretty sure i have a complete and up to date manual set for the other, it's not at all organized and would take work distinguishing old docs from recent versions...) Since TI has gone out of the Lisp Machine Business these machines would probably be a cheap way for Explorer I *and* II owners to ensure continued operations, since (as i understand it) the pedestals, memory, Consoles, ethernet card, ..., and all the software is interchangeable between I's and II's. Note that i'm selling these as an individual - it's me that owns them, not NIST (the place i work for). They are in excellent operating order, with all the tapes and manuals (as well as numerous extra SCSI tapes), and i've been using one of them sporadically over the past year (with extensive use in the past few months) with no problems at all. The details (in my original posting) on the machines is attached below. I'm going to be on leave the coming week (10/21-25) so you will receive a 'vacation' notification if you send email to may account. I'll be logging in periodically, tho, and respond within a few days. It's one of my favorites. A while back i purchased some used Explorers from Johns Hopkins University to get acquainted with Flavors and Common Lisp and investigate a lisp dialect developing. I need to trim my load and would like to find a nice home for these machines. They have a complete contingent of hardware and the software is reasonably to very up-to-date. They are loaded with lots of optional software like NFS, Prolog, Grasper, Relational Table Manager, ... They're nice machines and offer a *great* operating environment, but it's more than i need for work on my dialect. Both these machines are fully operational (and have run without hitches for months), both as standalone machines and on an ethernet network. They are running both running Explorer Release 6.0. Both machines have: Console, mouse, CPU pedestal, ethernet interface, all cables, etc... 8 MB memory 2 x 140 MB SCSI disks The LX has: 68020 coprocessor running Texas Instruments SysV r 2.3.0 Unix 1 additional 140 MB SCSI disk SCSI 1/4" SCSI tape cartridge LX software for TCP/IP /Busnet/ NFS communication between Unix and Lisp sides TI-85 Dot matrix printer I have two complete sets of Explorer documentation, with one set including Explorer, LX, optional packages, and TI Unix documentation assembled in binders to current modification levels. (No slight feat, that...) I also have an Explorer Odyssey (digital signal processor) board and driver software which i have not tried to install. Drop me a line or give me a call if you're interested.
