I have a microExplorer system with one internal and two external Apple 80MB hard disks. The machine occasionally gets into a "hung" state when opening or closing a file. It usually, but not always, happens when doing a lot of consecutive file operations, as in a make-system. The symptoms: 1. The status line says "open" or "close," and there is no disk activity or run bar activity. 2. I can get the machine back by aborting the access, but no subsequent access works. (Always hangs in the "open" state.) 3. A warm boot gets things working again. I wondered if there was a problem with the SCSI termination, but I've tried placing the terminator at different points in the change with no noticeable effect. Also, the last time this happened, I was able to access the same disk and files from the Mac with no problem. I'm running system 6.15 with microcode 138. ...Greg -- ...Greg Byrd MCNC/Digital Equipment Corp. gbyrd@mcnc.org P.O. Box 12889 (919)248-1439 Research Triangle Park, NC 27709

I've seen the problem with hangs when writing files on an mX from time to time (though rarely) and always felt it was due to bugs in the microExplorer application's NFS or RPC code, though I could never prove this. Unfortunately, I was never able to find a work around for the problem either, though sometimes I was able to get to the cold load stream to save files. -- Rich
