Yeah, yeah, I know it's all random, but . . .
Yesterday, I had a most unusual games of rogue. I managed to reach
experience level 12 with 109 (yes, 1*0*9) HP before getting cornered
by a Griffin on level 21. The interesting part is that in the first
six experience level increases that I earned, I received a 10 HP
increase FIVE times. In the remaining increases, I picked up 10 HP
twice more. The probability for this occurrence is quite low
(something on the order of 1 in 10 million). Since I've seen other
games of rogue where there seems to an abundance of either low or
high HP increases awarded, I seriously wonder about the randomness
of the alleged 1d10 HP increase.
If you're wondering why I didn't win, try taking on a Griffin when
you're boxed into a dead-end with no magical way out and have only
a once enchanted mace, and +1 banded mail. The HP's were great,
but I never found another weapon or armor other than the banded mail.
(Griffins are armor class 2, have 13 hit dice, and do 4d3/3d5 damage.)
