[net.games.rogue] ROGUE comments and FLAME

wsl@eosp1.UUCP (Warren Lobel) (08/01/84)

Why aren't there any scrolls of armor rustproofing or restore armor
in ROGUE? I think there should be a chance to restore a rusted suit
of plate mail since so many R's abound and as soon as you encounter
one its too late to take it off without at least having its armor
class reduced by one; especially since the chance of finding a
suit of plate mail is slim enough and the fact the you can encounter
	C's and T's along with R's. Also I recently played a game of 5.2
where I encountered a slew of A's and R's; had my strength reduced
to 7 before quaffing my one and only restore strength potion and then
having it reduced to 3 by another gaggle of Ants. I was finally killed
by a T having a strength of 3 and my wounded plate mail at 5. I think
the chances should be better of finding useful items when the odds
are weighed so heavily against you. (Note: I found 2 scrolls of
remove curse but naturally no armor or ring I tried on was cursed!)

After playing several games I noticed that certain games seem to favor
certain Monsters and magical items. That is in one game I will encounter
lots of Ants and Rust monsters along with a lot of scrolls and a few
rings but no wands whereas in another game I'll find lots of wands
and potions but no rings and few scrolls. Apparently the date and time
seem to be a factor in determining the probability of encountering
monsters and magical items since if a die right away and then start
a new game I'll encounter the same stuff as in the last game.

Has anybody else noticed this type of thing happening?

The variations in monster and treasure concentrations are probability-
	in-action...

And your wish (about Scrolls of Rustproofing) has been granted...
	in Rogue 5.3.

There is a scroll of "rustproofing" in 5.3
