[comp.os.rsts] Anyone out there running V9.4-05 ?

alderaan@tubopal.UUCP (Thomas Cervera) (09/07/89)

Hi,

is anyone of you running RSTS V9.4-05 out there ? I think we have got
a severe DCL problem here and I would like to know if this is unique to
our system. If not, it should be unique to RSTS 9.4 because we previousely
used 9.2 without this problem : If you include /timestamp to open/logfile,
DCL includes a timestamp EVERY CHARACTER, not every line. This seems to
be a severe bug because sometimes the system crashes if you use this option
(PBS does, for example). ANALYS.TSK then detects ??Odd address trap or
??Reserved instruction trap during FIP (dunno why FIP) operations. Or is it
really a FIP bug I don't have the patch to fix ?
If you can help, please send me a mail.

Thanx in advance -thomas

P.S.: BTW: - Is there any way to install the DEF KBM (DCL) resident ?
	   - Is DEC's TS watching this newsgroup ? (YOOHOO!) Do they have an
address on the net ? This would save me to submit an SPR by
	     snail-mail :-)

Yes, that is/was a known problem with Rsts 9.4 Try installing 9.5 or even
something newer.

Yes, this is a problem with V9.4 - it is a side effect of a change to make
things go faster in the terminal driver... no one is perfect. :-)

I think that it was fixed by patch for V9.4, but it certainly is fixed in
source for the versions after that.

>ANALYS.TSK then detects ??Odd address trap or ??Reserved instruction trap
It's an unrelated ANALYS bug probably never fixed - I don't really know.
Certain crash files messed up in certain ways would cause ANALYS to blame the
wrong component.
