I have been playing 5.2 for a while now (after playing 3.6 for a longer while) and have noticed a very annoying bug (its not a bug its a feature!). The floating eyes (or floating pain-in-the-asses as I call them) seem to have the ability to permanently transfix you (a state where you can do nothing but quit) in version 5.2 whereas in version 3.6 the state of immobilization lasted only a few turns. In 5.2 I wasn't always permanently transfixed just sometimes. But it has occurred often enough to scare me away from attacking any more floating eyes whereas in 3.6 the eyes only presented a real problem if there were any other monsters in the same room at the time you got transfixed (though the state of immobilization still wasn't permanent regardless of how many monsters are present in the room). What I would like to know is if the eyes in 5.2 really do have the ability to permanently transfix you or was it that I got too impatient and if I waited long enough I would have been free to move again. Thanks in advance, Warren Lobel

Beleive it or not, this IS a feature (read the manual page for rogue 5.3). The only way to avoid being transfixed forever is to leave floating eyes alone. Danny Espinoza {allegra!mouton!dje}

#R:eosp1:-102900:ea:3900013:37777777600:287 ea!kel Aug 13 16:38:00 1984 [hic] Floating eyes transfix you for a dice roll of turns unless you save against magic, and get more chances to transfix you while you are transfixed. Thus, you have a fair chance of being transfixed permanently because they transfix you repeatedly. Use thrown weapons against them.
