[Oh no, not again!]

Well, another day at the office and another bunch of reemings (the official
word of the 1984 US Rogue team). Haven't you wished there was some way to
improve your play and your chances of winning? To spit Random Chance (actually
the twin brothers Slim and None) in the eye? Now, for a limited time and a
limited time only, you can take part in a series of exercises guaranteed to
improve your play or double your gold back (as long as it totals the sum of two
primes :-) ). No longer will the game be able to treat you like a 98 hit point
weakling and push you around going: -----
                                       | |
                                       +@, | Ha, ha, sucker, that's a xeroc!
                                       -----

So, without further ado,

Exercise 1: Phind the Phantom.
On the previous level, a lapse of concentration caused you to throw your ring
of see invisible at a leprechaun. As a result, you come into a room in which
you are sure a phantom is hiding, waiting to leap out at you. It would help
immensely if you knew where it was. Using the fine logical abilities with
which you have been endowed, locate the phantom.
                      ----------------
                      |....:.........|
                      |..........!...|
                      |..............@
                      |*...........%.|
                      ------------+---

Exercise 2: Role Playing: Party Room.
You are running a character named Ronald Reagan who comes to the following
party room: ---------------
                |.E....C.!...S|
@D..M*..R?.T=.| What is your best winning strategy?
                |..:..O./.A:?.|
                ---------------

Exercise 3: Choose Your Poison.
You have the following unidentified potions: a black one, two cyan potions,
a green potion, a magenta potion, two plaid potions, and a red potion. You
have decided to drink one. Which will it be?

Needless to say, creativity is as important as correctness. If you wish the
world to see your answers, post them or send them to uiucdcs!kaufman. Mine
may show up in a week. Till then, rest in peace.

A test for rogue-acuity is a great idea. OK, you've started with
70 HP, Armor class of 4, Strength level 18, and a +2 +2 Mace. You
encounter a Xorn and after trading the first few blows you discover
to your dismay that you are in the dreaded random-number-generator-
drought. Normally this is discovered when your HP reach 10 and you
haven't landed a blow. Now, in your pack are wands of light, drain
life, magic missle, five restore strength potions, a potion of see
invisible, a slimemold and other useful goodies, so you decide to
turn around and run; to heal and gather your thoughts. Your hit
points are back up to 20 when you encounter Xorn #2 in a passageway.
Here's your chance to think like a total winner! Do you:

			####X@X#### <---

	A. Ask if you can be excused?

	B. Offer to hold someone's coat?

	C. Bend over to tie your shoelaces?

	D. Ask if anyone has change for a gold piece?

------

No thanks are necessary, my reward is the look in your eyes.

I would do: E. None of the above. I would go down the steps that I am
standing on (unless one of the goodies in our bag is the Amulet in which
case I would go up).	:-) <- Do you see your reward? Look close.
