Tonight, I went out to dinner with a woman who is interviewing for a job here. She is a _very_ impressive woman. There were two other people--the chair of the search committee (who is a sweetie) and a Lawrence scholar. At one point, she said that there didn't seem to be many people on the campus today. Someone else said that it probably seemed that way to her because she is from Ohio State. She said that the campus itself didn't seem any smaller than the Ohio State campus. The Lawrence scholar contradicted her. She said, "Well, it didn't seem any smaller to _me_." He contradicted her again. He kept saying to her things like "Absolutely not!" I don't think he ever saw that there was something odd about what he was saying, despite her attempts to point out that he was telling her how things seemed to her. I kept thinking about the net. -Trish
