I need some information, for someone I know. Readers of this newsgroup should be able to provide it. The question is, what can a person with advanced training in mathematics (VERY advanced, like just short of a PhD) do in the computer industry that *does not require programming* ? (No really its not for me - I know how to program :-) ) Don't assume that because of her extensive training she would be uninterested in <a given type of position>. I want to know about technical writing, about doing graphics work, about everything possible. If you know, with each type of position, I would also appreciate knowing the general salary range. Many thanks in advance, Lea Fester fester@math.berkeley.edu (preferred) ucbvax!math!fester (screwy)

For certain odd reasons, I need to know whether any graduate mathematics department from among this list has any kind of affirmative action program, how extensive it is, and how long it has been in existence: Princeton, MIT, UChicago, Harvard, Yale, NYU, Columbia, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota Thanks in advance.
